Attio: connect, import and write back

What the app does

The Attio connection lets you start a proposal, sales deck or one-pager from an Attio deal. The company, value and the attributes you choose come in without retyping, and Veew reports back to the deal when the buyer acts on the document.

Import a deal into Veew. Search your deals from Veew by deal name or company name and bring one in with its company.
Stay current. Veew re-reads deals you are still working on every few hours, and you can refresh one at any time.
Write back. A note on the deal when a document is sent, accepted, commented on, or its form is answered, and four Veew attributes on deals that track the latest document and its views. Write-back is part of the Starter and Team plans.

What Veew never changes

Veew never changes your deal value, stage, owner, associated company or people, any company or person record, or any attribute you didn't map. The only things it writes are notes on the deal and its own four deal attributes, whose API slugs start with veew_.

Before you start

An Attio workspace on any plan, including the free one.
Deals turned on. Attio ships with the Deals object switched off. A workspace admin turns it on under Workspace settings → Objects → Deals; without it there is nothing for Veew to import, and Settings → Integrations says so.
An Attio admin is best. Veew can then add its four attributes to deals for you. Anyone can connect; if Veew can't add the attributes, an admin adds them by hand later (see If Veew can't add its attributes).
A Veew workspace where you are an owner or admin. Importing deals works on every plan; write-back to Attio needs Starter or Team.
One Attio workspace connects to one Veew workspace, and the connection is shared by everyone in that workspace.

Connect

In Veew, go to Settings → Integrations and click Connect Attio.

Sign in to Attio if asked, and choose the workspace to connect.

Until Veew is listed in Attio's App Store, Attio notes that the app hasn't been reviewed by Attio yet. That's expected. Review the access Veew asks for (explained under Data Veew reads and writes) and approve it.

You return to Settings → Integrations, with Attio shown as connected and your workspace's name on the card.

What connecting sets up

A starting field map: the company's name and domain (as the website), plus the deal's name and value. Attio deals have no standard close date and companies no standard industry; map your own attributes if you keep them.
Four attributes on deals, created a moment after you connect: veew_latest_document_url (Text), veew_document_status (Text), veew_last_viewed_at (Timestamp) and veew_total_views (Number). Their titles start with "Veew".
Nothing that listens for changes. Veew keeps deals current by re-reading them (see Keeping deals current).

Map your fields

The field map decides which Attio attributes fill which Veew fields, and so which facts the AI and your templates can use.

In Veew, go to Settings → Fields. Once Attio is connected, the table has an Attio column.

For each field, pick the Deal, Company or Person attribute that should fill it. Standard and custom attributes are both listed, and only attributes of a compatible type are offered: a number field takes number, currency and rating attributes, a date field takes dates and timestamps.

To bring in an attribute Veew doesn't have a field for yet, click Add field, create the Veew field, then map it. Changes apply to the next import or refresh.

Contacts

The deal's associated people come across with it: up to ten, in the order Attio lists them, each with their name, job title and email. They are added to the deal's Contacts list once, on the first import, so anyone you remove in Veew stays removed. The first becomes the primary contact when the deal has none, and fills {{contact.first_name}} and the other contact variables.

Map contact fields in the Attio column only to pull custom Person attributes into your documents; they are read from the first associated person.

People can always be added to the deal by hand on the deal page.

Import a deal

In Veew, open Deals and click Import from Attio, or click Import a deal on the Attio card in Settings → Integrations.

Search by deal name or company name, or pick from the newest deals. Attio records have no last-changed date, so the list is ordered by when each deal was created.

Pick the deal. Veew creates its own deal with the mapped attributes and the deal's company, and links it back to the deal in Attio.

Importing the same deal again updates the Veew deal you already have rather than making a second one.
You can also type the company on Home, and Veew looks for a matching deal.

Keeping deals current

Every hour, Veew re-reads deals whose copy is more than six hours old, as long as the deal is still being worked on: it has a draft or live document, or changed in the last 30 days. Starting a document from a deal also re-reads it in the background when its copy is more than an hour old, and Refresh on the deal page pulls the latest at once. The deal page shows when it last synced from Attio, or why the last refresh failed.

A field you edited in Veew keeps your edit, and the deal page shows Attio's newer value with Use it so you can take it if you want. If the deal is deleted in Attio, the next refresh marks the Veew deal as deleted there and its documents, notes and fields are kept.

Write-back to Attio

On Starter and Team, Veew writes two things to deals it imported. On Free it imports and stays current, but writes nothing to Attio.

A note on the deal when a document is sent (with the link and who it went to), accepted (with who accepted and the option they chose), commented on by the buyer, or its form is answered. The note's title is a one-line summary and its body carries the link; long comments and form answers are cut short.
The four Veew attributes on the deal, updated when a document is published or its status changes, and as buyers view it (at most once every ten minutes per link): the latest document's link, its status, when it was last viewed, and its total views. Use them in views, filters and reports.

If Veew can't add its attributes

If the person who connected can't change the workspace's objects, notes are still added, the Write-back line on the Attio card says Partly, and the card lists the four attributes with their API slugs and types. An Attio admin can add them by hand:

In Attio, go to Workspace settings → Objects → Deals → Attributes and create a new attribute.

Create four attributes with these API slugs and types: veew_latest_document_url as Text, veew_document_status as Text, veew_last_viewed_at as Timestamp, and veew_total_views as Number. Titles can be anything.

Veew finds the attributes by slug the next time it updates the deal.

Data Veew reads and writes

These are the permissions (scopes) Veew's Attio app has, and what each is for. Veew reads a deal only when you import it, refresh it, or start a document from it, and it stores only the attributes you map. It does not copy your whole workspace.

Records and object configuration are read-write because Veew writes its own attributes on deals. It never edits company or person records.
Imported deal data stays in your workspace, where only its members can see it.
Access tokens are stored server-side and never sent to the browser.
The privacy policy covers how data is handled and how to have it deleted.

Disconnect

Disconnecting stops Veew talking to Attio. You can connect again any time.

What disconnecting does to your data

Veew deletes its stored token and asks Attio to revoke it, so it can no longer read or write anything in your workspace. To remove Veew from Attio's list of apps as well, uninstall it there (below).
Deals you imported, and the documents made from them, stay in Veew. They stop refreshing from Attio.
Nothing is deleted in Attio. Notes Veew added and the values in the four Veew attributes stay on your deals.
Your field map is kept, so reconnecting picks up where you left off.

Uninstall

Uninstalling removes Veew from your Attio workspace. Only Attio workspace admins can uninstall apps.

What uninstalling does to your data

Attio revokes Veew's access at once. Veew can no longer read or write anything, deals stop refreshing, and the Attio card in Veew's Settings → Integrations says Attio no longer accepts the connection, with Reconnect.
Notes Veew added, and the four Veew attributes with their values, stay in Attio. To remove the attributes, archive them under Workspace settings → Objects → Deals → Attributes.
Imported deals and documents stay in Veew. To remove the connection there too, click Disconnect in Settings → Integrations. To have your Veew data deleted, delete the workspace or email support@veew.ai.

Troubleshooting

"Deals aren't enabled in this Attio workspace. Turn them on under Workspace settings → Objects → Deals, then import again." An Attio admin turns Deals on; Veew notices on its next call, with no need to reconnect.
"Only workspace owners and admins can connect integrations." Ask an owner or admin of your Veew workspace to connect, or to change your role under Settings → Team.
The authorization link expired. The link Veew sends you to Attio with is valid for 15 minutes. Start again from Settings → Integrations → Connect Attio.
"That Attio workspace is already connected to another Veew workspace." One Attio workspace connects to one Veew workspace. Disconnect it from the other Veew workspace first.
Attio no longer accepts the connection. Veew was uninstalled from the Attio workspace. Attio access doesn't expire on its own, so this only happens after an uninstall or a revoke. Click Reconnect; imported deals are untouched.
"Write-back needs attention" and Attio refused a write. Give the person who connected permission to edit deals and add notes, then click Reconnect. Importing keeps working meanwhile.
Write-back says Partly. Veew couldn't add its four attributes. Notes are still added; see If Veew can't add its attributes.
Nothing appears on the deal. Write-back needs the Starter or Team plan, and only deals imported into Veew get notes and attribute values.
The close date is empty. Attio deals have no standard close date. If you keep one in your own attribute, map it to Close date under Settings → Fields.
A field is empty after import. Check its mapping in Settings → Fields, and that the attribute has a value on that deal, its company or its first associated person in Attio.
